Arthur der Weduwen Wins National Award

| POSTED BY Graeme Kemp |

USTC Associate Editor Arthur der Weduwen has been awarded the 2016 Elsevier/ Johan de Witt prize.  The prize, awarded at a ceremony in Utrecht on 26 November, is offered annually for the best dissertation at Master’s level on a subject related to the Dutch Golden Age. Arthur won the prize for his St Andrews M.Litt. dissertation on the ‘Development of the Dutch Press in the Seventeenth Century’.  This is the first time the prize has been awarded to a dissertation written at a university outside the Netherlands.

Arthur has now developed this work on early Dutch newspapers into a full critical analysis and bibliography, which will be published by Brill in two volumes in 2017.  For details of the launch event, which will take place on 11-12 May 2017 in Amsterdam, contact adw7@st-andrews.ac.uk.
