New opportunity in the USTC team

School of History in the University of St Andrews is seeking to appoint to a position within the St Andrews Book History research group. The successful candidate will work on the project, ‘Preserving the World’s Rarest Books’. This project is financed by a grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation of New York. Arthur der Weduwen Wins National Award

USTC Associate Editor Arthur der Weduwen has been awarded the 2016 Elsevier/ Johan de Witt prize. The prize, awarded at a ceremony in Utrecht on 26 November, is offered annually for the best dissertation at Master’s level on a subject related to the Dutch Golden Age. Arthur won the prize for his St Andrews M.Litt. dissertation on the ‘Development of the Dutch Press in the Seventeenth Century’. This is the first time the prize has been awarded to a dissertation written at a university outside the Netherlands. Arthur has now developed this work on early Dutch newspapers into a full critical analysis and bibliography, which will be published by Brill in two volumes in 2017.
